Any suggestions? I am running OS X 10.8.5. Use the MAMP PRO Uninstaller located in /Applications/MAMP PRO to remove MAMP PRO. It includes Apache, PHP and other XAMPP components and runs them in a Linux-based virtual machine on your OS X system. It installs Apache, PHP and other XAMPP components directly on your OS X system, in the /Applications/XAMPP folder.

I followed these instructions except I did not find " in the /etc folder.the folder was empty (I have since gone back to look again and I can't find the etc folder!).
